FAQs
New to BLYS? Or perhaps you're brand new to yoga, barre or sculpt? Read below for some tips for first-time visitors.
Q: I'M NEW TO YOGA. IS THERE A CLASS FOR ME?
A: ABSOLUTELY!
Beginners are encouraged to try our Beginner Yoga Series (offered twice a year), Gentle Yoga, Yin, or Vinyasa I. Our instructors will move through poses slowly, emphasizing proper alignment and safety. Expect more instruction as well as suggestions for how to best modify poses for less intensity.
Q: HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR CLASS?
A: THE BEST, MOST SEAMLESS WAY TO BOOK CLASSES AT BLYS IS WITH OUR APP. SEARCH "BLUE LOTUS YOGA STUDIO" TO DOWNLOAD.
Q: DO I HAVE TO PRE-REGISTER OR CAN I JUST DROP IN?
A: CLIENTS MUST SIGN UP NO LATER THAN 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE START OF CLASS.
Q: WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO YOGA CLASS?
A: A MAT, A BOTTLE OF WATER, AND POSSIBLY A TOWEL.
We also offer mats for a rental fee of $2. Platinum, Gold and Silver Members may use our in-house mats free of charge. We have a water cooler on-site for refills. If you forget your water bottle, we sell reusable plastic ones for $4.
Q: IF I SHOW UP LATE, CAN I STILL TAKE CLASS?
A: IT DEPENDS.
If there is a front desk staffer on duty when you arrive, they will let you into class up to 10 minutes late. However, if a front desk person is not on duty that day, the door will be locked promptly at the start of class, and late-comers will not be permitted.
Q: ARE YOU A HOT YOGA STUDIO?
A: NO. WE OFFER BOTH HEATED AND NON-HEATED CLASSES RANGING FROM 75 TO 95 DEGREES.
The thermostat for our beginner, gentle, and yin yoga classes is typically set at 75 degrees. Our Vinyasa II classes are heated to between 85 and 90 degrees. For our Power Vinyasa classes we heat the room to approximately 95 degrees.
Q: WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO YOGA?
A: COMFORTABLE, SOMEWHAT SNUG-FITTING CLOTHING.
When practicing yoga most people find that tight, moisture-wicking apparel is best. Certain postures result in the student being slightly or fully inverted, in which case a loose fitting shirt could fall towards the face and prove distracting. We also advise students to practice barefoot.
Q: I'M NEW TO BARRE AND/OR SCULPT. IS THERE A CLASS FOR ME?
A: YES! ALL OF OUR BARRE AND SCULPT CLASSES ARE SUITABLE FOR BEGINNERS.
We suggest letting your instructor know if you're brand new to this format so that they can better assist you with modifications and alignment corrections.
Q: DO I HAVE TO WEAR SOCKS TO SCULPT AND BARRE CLASS?
A: SOCKS ARE OPTIONAL.
Students are welcome to wear barre-specific socks with rubber grip on the sole. We sell these in our BLYS Boutique. You are also welcome to take class barefoot.
Q: DOES YOUR STUDIO HAVE A SHOWER?
A: YES, WE HAVE ONE ADA-ACCESSIBLE SHOWER.
Q: DO I HAVE TO BRING MY OWN YOGA PROPS?
A: WE HAVE ALL OF THE PROPS NEEDED FOR A WELL-ROUNDED YOGA, BARRE OR SCULPT CLASS.
For our yoga students, we offer bolsters, blankets, blocks and straps. Our mats can be rented for $2. We also sell a variety of B-Yoga and Gaiam brand mats for anyone looking to buy. Our barre and sculpt studio is outfitted with cushy 48" fitness mats, resistance bands, 2 lbs. and 3 lbs. weights, weighted balls, straps, resistance bands, blocks, and balls.
